Attica – Vada L. Cox Kirkman, 89, formerly of Attica, died Saturday Dec 29, 2007 at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. Born in Benton Co. on Feb 28, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Freeman R. and Lola Jane Gray Cox. She graduated from Attica HS in 1935. She had resided in  Torrance since 1959. Her marriage on Sept 11, 1937 was to Richard William Kirkman in Bedford. They worked in the photography business for many years in both Indiana and Torrance. He died March 7, 1976. She later worked in the retail business for many years and retired from the Broadway Co in 1988. She then volunteered to manage the gift shop at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, retiring at 79.  Mrs. Kirkman was a former member of Attica First United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach, Calif.  Surviving is a sister, Thelma Jean TJ Foster of Attica.

A joint memorial service for Vada and her nephew William, “Bill” F. Kirkman will be held in the Riverside Cemetery Attica at 1 p.m. Saturday July 12, 2008 with David Foster and Daniel Jordan officiating. Surviving are several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Ann Rosenbaum and a brother, George R. Cox.
